Not Sure What to Do with Your Hardwood Flooring?

Want to Know the Different Ways Used On Hardwood Refinishing?

Hardwood refinishing can often be a lengthy job, or, a quick strip and protect one. The process of refinishing these floors will usually mean sanding floor boards, staining the hardwood, and sealing it for a more durable finish. The finished look will differ depending on how soft the wood is and how old the floor is.

Sanding the floor is probably the most labor-intensive part of this project. Sanding begins with a drum sander. As one round of sanding has been finished, the sandpaper will need to be changed to a less course one, after which the floor will be sanded again, this will be done until the floor is smooth and retains no hint of the original finish. This method will slowly strip away any old finish and prepares it for a new finish.

Once the old finish is removed, the floor is then ready to be sealed in order to show off the natural look of the wood. When a darker look is wanted, refinishing hardwood floors using a deeper stain will be needed. Staining hardwood does, however, take a great deal of time, patience, and multiple applications.

The last thing needed to refinish hardwood flooring will be sealing the boards. A product known as Polyurethane will be used to seal the flooring, however, you will need to apply multiple coats in order to totally seal the floor once it has been refinished. So you will need to apply a coat of polyurethane finish onto your flooring to ensure it stands the test of time.

When the first coat has dried, fine sandpaper will then be used to rough the finish up, in order to prepare the floor for another coat. This will need to be repeated quite a few times to increase the floors shine. By layering multiple coats in this way, it will also increase the durability of a finished hardwood floor.
